How to use Pivot Builder
Follow these steps to explore your data and generate a pivot table.
- Upload a dataset (CSV or Excel) using the Choose file button. Or click Load Sample Data to try it instantly.
- Once loaded, the dropdowns under Configure Pivot will populate with your column names.
- Pick a Rows field (e.g., Region) and a Columns field (e.g., Category).
- Select the Values field (the metric to aggregate, e.g., Revenue) and choose an Aggregation (SUM, COUNT, AVERAGE, MIN, or MAX).
- Click Build Pivot to generate the table on the right. Use Export CSV or Export Excel to download results.
- For suggestions, open AI Pivot Assistant, describe your goal (e.g., “Show total Revenue by Category and Region”), then click Ask AI. The tool will pre-fill suitable fields.
Tips
- Numeric metrics work best for Values (e.g., Revenue, Units Sold).
- If a dropdown is empty, ensure your file has a header row with column names.
- Use the Reset button to clear the file, selections, AI prompt, and results.
- Very large files may take a moment to parse; consider filtering before upload.
Troubleshooting
- Dropdowns show odd names: Check for merged header cells or blank first row in Excel; save as CSV and re-upload.
- Values show as 0: The selected Values column has text; choose a numeric column or clean your data.
- No result: Ensure Rows, Columns, and Values are all selected before clicking Build Pivot.
